Celebrities turn out in support of President Obama’s Inauguration!
President Obama has officially been sworn into office for the second time, in a ceremony celebrated by over 700,000 supporters, including Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and John Mayer in Washington yesterday!
The huge crowd gathered not only to hear the President’s Inauguration speech in which he called for national unity, but also to catch performances by superstars Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor.
Taylor performed iconic American ballad ‘America the Beautiful,’ while Clarkson belted out a powerful rendition of ‘My Country, ‘Tis of Thee,’ accompanied by the United States Marine Band.
“Wow ....I was incredibly nervous and cold ha! I just wanna officially thank President Obama for opening for me haha! Just kidding :),” tweeted the ‘American Idol’ alum after the event.
As the event came to an end it was Bey’s turn to perform for the President. According to MTV News, as the beauty made her way up to the podium in a black sequin dress and emerald-drop earrings, she gave the First Lady Michelle Obama a kiss and interacted with Vice President Joe Biden – before belting out the American National Anthem, ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’
Other celebrities to come out in support of the President were John Mayer and Katy Perry, who were spotted together in the audience, Jay-Z who was seen walking his wife through the crowd and Eva Longoria who was also in attendance.
Several stars also took to Twitter to share their excitement over the momentous occasion.
“Been up early watching the Inauguration #MLK #PresidentObama," tweeted Khloe Kardashian, with Kelly Rowland adding, "The First Family look amazing! #History #Inauguration2013.”
“Happy MLK Day and Inauguration Day! Can't imagine the energy in DC... I'm excited just watching the festivities on TV. #oneforthebooks,” gushed singer Mandy Moore.
