MTV’s Top 10 Wedding Reception Classics
The cake has been cut, speeches have been made and now the real fun can begin. Tap the DJ on the shoulder and crank up the tunes it’s time to get your groove on. Loosen that tie, tune up your air guitar and tell the girls to watch out for the creepy uncle who’s been looking forward to this night since the engagement party.
One thing’s for certain, there ain’t no party like a wedding reception…party – so here are ten of our favourite tunes that are certain to make any wedding a night to remember.
Black Eyed Peas – ‘I Gotta Feeling’
The feel good anthem that always gets the night started right. Uplifting and perfect for the occasion, it’s a floor filler that’s bound to get any party bouncing. ‘I Gotta Feeling’ will get those that came to boogie out on to the dance floor early.
Beyonce – ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’
For all the girls scrapping over the bouquet, this is the song of the night. Sure to bring about a suitably bad Beyonce impression and a naked ring finger pointed squarely at the poor fella who knows he’s in for a long night.
Maroon 5 – ‘Moves Like Jagger’
Unfortunately for your old man, who is a massive Stones fan, he’s unlikely to hear anything from Mick and the boys because the twenty-something-year-old bride has set the playlist. Luckily Maroon 5 will see him up and out of his chair attempting to strut and pout like only Jagger can.
‘The Grease Megamix’
If impersonating Sandy and Danny Zuko doesn’t get things going then very little will! The five minute medley of some of the best sing-along moments from the iconic musical is always a wedding reception highlight!
Sir Mix-A-Lot – ‘Baby Got Back’
A chance for the girls to booty roll and perfect for the wannabe rapper to showcase his MC skills. ‘Baby Got Back’ will have that sleazy guy grinding with the bridesmaids drawing looks of disapproval from your grandmother.
Los Del Rio – ‘Macarena’
Weddings give even the coolest kids licence to be cheesy and nothing is more cheesy than the ‘Macarena.’ The famous one hit wonder may even bring a smile to the face of your hipster cousin with the dodgy Morrissey haircut.
ABBA – ‘Dancing Queen’
Finally, a song that your mother doesn’t’ mind! Almost any ABBA song works at a wedding but ‘Dancing Queen’ is a standout. A tune for young and old, ‘Dancing Queen’ will have the whole party singing along.
Bryan Adams – ‘Summer of ‘69’
A crowd favourite at any party the Bryan Adams classic is always a hit. It might even get that miserable guy with the long hair who’s been complaining about this ‘pop crap’ all night out on to the dance floor. It’s not Metallica but it’s got a guitar so ‘it’ll do’!
The B-52’s – ‘Love Shack’
After a bit too much champagne the The B-52’s’s classic will have the girl with her stiletto’s in her hand bumping with the groomsman who’s tied his tie around his head. ‘Love Shack’ is a staple of any good wedding reception.
Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – ‘I’ve had the Time of My Life’
The song that will bring Baby out of the corner! Part ballad, part dance, it’s guaranteed to fill the dance floor at the end of the night and have both the oldies and young ones singing and grooving along like few other songs can. And who doesn’t love ‘Dirty Dancing’!
The ‘Top 40 Wedding Reception Classics’ airs this Thursday August 22 at 7.30pm – only on MTV Classic!
