5 Tell-Tale Signs Christmas (& Life As You Know It) Is Over
With the jolliest day of the year a whole 24 hours in the past, Christmas is probably a mere memory synonymous with an overload of tinsel, wine and an assortment of glazed meats.
Along with that crappy paper crown and that odd keychain that you “won” from your Christmas cracker now tossed to the corner of your room, here are five signs that you’re coming down from your Xmas high.
1. Body sweats from extraordinary food consumption
Eating during the Christmas period is probably equivalent to (what we imagine) running a marathon feels like. First you go through all the prep to get ready to feast, then come the food tingles from pure excitement, and after the battle to stuff yourself begins. The day after Xmas, you’re bound to wake up with a hardcore food coma and a heavy pang of regret from pushing yourself to the ~limit~ but just embrace it. After all, it’s the holiday period so just treat yo self.
2. The unavoidable post Christmas hangover
Since Christmas is one of the days in the year where spending a whole day drinking is 100% socially acceptable, don’t fret if you’re cradling your head and questioning your life choices today. Your head may feel like it’s being slammed into a wall, and it may seem like Santa’s decided to take a sh*t on your soul, but they’re all just signs that you’ve had a pretty amazing Christmas.
3. You find yourself wondering whether it’s still okay to eat the leftover Christmas food
You may have vowed to yourself that you “cannot even” stand the sight or smell of food until at least another 24 hours has passed, but throughout the day you may find yourself subconsciously inching towards the fridge to grab those Christmas day leftovers. Just because Christmas day is over, doesn’t mean that you can’t reap its benefits.
4. You catch yourself still humming along to “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
During the silly season you’ll probably find yourself absentmindedly humming along to and memorising the lyrics to Christmas carols that you didn’t even want to learn. But post-Christmas, in a shocking twist of events, you may find yourself shedding a tear in realisation that it will another 365 days until it's socially acceptable to blast the holiday tunes again. You might even walk into a department store and find yourself missing Michael Bublé’s dulcet tones.
5. You’re mentally preparing yourself to do it all again for New Years
There’s a whole five days between Christmas and New Year, so you’ll have a couple of days to sit back, relax and recover before having to do it all over again.
