Hundreds Of School Kids Strike At NSW Parliament As Bushfires Burn Across The State
Hundreds of school kids gathered outside the NSW parliament in Sydney this morning as bushfires sweep across NSW and Queensland. According to School Strike 4 Climate’s Twitter, the protestors have showed up to support those affected by the bushfires, and to demand more action on climate change, which is known to be a major factor in the worsening of bushfires across Australia.
Communities are burning. It's tragic. They deserve Government's support to fight fires and stop climate change, not to fuel more coal and gas which is driving the climate crisis. #climatecrisis #bushfires pic.twitter.com/T8YcmfIWG7

The current fire danger warning in NSW has reached ‘Catastrophic’, the highest level of danger that authorities can declare. There has been three deaths reported, five people are unaccounted for and 150 homes lost, as ABC has it.
600 schools and TAFE campuses have been closed and more schools in NSW’s north-west and the Upper Hunter region are being evacuated as we write this.
As the fires burn on, many are angry at the Morrison government for their lack of action on climate change, and while ScoMo has offered his ‘thoughts and prayers’ to those affected, many reckon it’s just not good enough.
I’m deeply saddened by the loss of life. Hearts go out to all affected & to brave firefighters.
But words & concern are not enough.
The PM does not have the climate emergency under control.
Unless we lead a global effort to quit coal & cut pollution, more lives will be lost.

In Sept, former Chief of Fire & Rescue NSW, Greg Mullins told #thedrum of vain attempts to meet with PM & ministers on #bushfires. His letters ignored. His pleas that we act now on climate, his concern we're unprepared for this "uncharted territory" of extreme weather - ignored. https://t.co/kEJklA2cQH

Stop with the thoughts an prayers bullshit -- you've had at least 6 years to:
- build up our emergency services
- prepare Australia for Drought
THAT'S NEARLY A DECADE OF INACTION #StickYourThoughtsANDprayersUpYourArse
