Thredbo opening weekend kicks off with Crooked Colours!
It’s that time of year again and instead of the monotonous moans of “It’s so bloody cold!” with no reward, Aussie snow season looks in fine form.
With a fresh new blanket of powder in Thredbo (that’s probably why you wore an extra layer in Sydney this week), slope enthusiasts, snowboarders and professional après skiers are all on route to the snowy mountains.
But opening weekend would be nothing without a show with the hottest acts to warm you up after a cold serve on the slopes. Rekorderlig Sounds in the Snow is back at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel bringing the best of the Swedish snow experience Down Under.
Did we mention there will also be a Swedish hot pool to soak your weary post-ski body?
Kicking off the season of weekend parties, live music and DJ sets are electronic three-piece Crooked Colours. Frontman Phil Slabber and keyboardist Leon De Baughn dished to MTV Travel about the band’s plans to let loose and put on one hell of a show.
While Leon is the designated ski bunny of the band snowboarding both in Thredbo and Japan, Phil and drummer Liam are popping their Thredbo cherries.
“[Leon] will be our leading man,” joked Phil.
“[But I’ve] defiantly had my fair share of yard sales (when you eat shit and you lose all your gear),” Leon laughed.
Being their first gig at the snow, the boys are making a long weekend of Sounds in the Snow with plenty of time for relaxing around the hot pool and kicking back.
“We will be defiantly getting around that hot pool!” Leon said. “Look out for Phil, he's an animal in the tub.”
“I’m excited to get pretty loose. I think we’re going to have a pretty large one,” said Phil.
“Japan gets crazy amounts of soft delicious snow, [but] they defiantly don't have the parties and shows like we do,” explained Leon.
During their set expect to hear the band’s new single ‘Another Way’ as well as Phil’s favourite ‘Capricious’ and a crowd favourite cover of MGMT’s ‘Electric Feel’.
After Thredbo the band will tour the east coast of Australia before heading back home to Perth in July. Check out the boys’ Facebook page for details.
