Cut Copy Talk Grammy Nom!

“I Assumed It Was A Weird Joke”

A sell-out national tour and international dates at some of the world’s biggest festivals, a top charting album and an ARIA win… It’s been a hell of a year for Cut Copy, and now, the Melbourne dance outfit have received news that’s really going to top it off - they’re up for a Grammy Award !

Talking to pedestrian TV, vocalist Dan Whitford said: “The weirdest thing about it for us was that we were coming back from doing so much touring this year, I don’t know how many shows we’ve done, 130 or something… So we thought we’d just be relaxing, but as it turns out, we’ve gone to the ARIAs, won an award, and then now this week been nominated for a Grammy… it’s become a bit crazier than we expected!”

Talking about the moment they got the happy news, drummer Mitchell Scott said, “I was at home and I got a text congrats on the Grammy nomination and I replied back, what the f*&k?! I assumed it was some weird joke…”

Nominated in the Best Dance/Electronica Album category for ‘Zonoscope’, which was released in February, the dance outfit are pitted against some stiff competition which includes Deadmau5, David Guetta, Skrillex and Robyn.

“We’re up against some heavy weights, that for sure," Mitchell continued. "I know David Guetta has his own plane… We were flying on an airline and they’d branded the airline The David Guetta airline… We certainly don’t have anything like that going on, so maybe we’ll get the sort of lovable underdog status.”

Besides Keith Urban, the last time Aussies were on the coveted Grammy noms list was in 2007, when Wolfmother took out Best Hard Rock Performance for their single ‘Woman’.

Also flying the Aussie flag at the star studded bash will be Nick Cave and Sneaky Sound System’s Connie Mitchell.

Nick is up for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media category, courtesy of the ’True Blood: Volume 3’ soundtrack, while Connie’s vocals were featured on Kanye West and Jay-Z’s collab ‘Watch The Throne’ which is up for two noms.

Congrats guys!
