Slim Shady Is Back
He may be yesterday's news, but Eminem is far from washed up. After a four year wait and endless rumours, Eminem fans will finally get the reprieve they've been waiting for.
The 'retired' rapper has been missing in action since his last studio album 'Encore', but according to Dr Dre's latest protege, Bishop Lamont, the white trash rap hero is back in the recording studio.
Bishop said that Eminem was "emotionally devastated" following the shooting of his close friend and D12 band member Proof back in 2006, but is now finding closure by channeling his feelings into his music.
Lamont says, "He went through what he had to go through, and now he's been able to take all the pain and stress and put it out in his music."
Even though Eminem has refrained from releasing any new material, the controversial rapper hasn't managed to avoid the spot light altogether. During his hiatus, he has been accused of assaulting a man in the bathroom of a Michigan strip club, reportedly suffered a mild heart attack and was offered the chance to be an ambassador for weight loss product company Slim-Fast.
The news of a new album from Slim Shady comes as a welcome respite for those distraught at the current state of Hip Slop.
"Em is excited. He's been quiet too long, and he's got a lot to get off his chest," added Bishop.
That may be, but since Em has vanquished the demons in his personal life (he recently split from ex-wife Kim for good, made nice with his estranged mum and came to grips with the foibles of fame) we wonder what the rapper will lament about in his hardcore lyrics?
The death of Proof will probably feature prominantly, so will we be seeing an all new, insightful and reflective Em? And if so, will he still have the appeal he once had?
Looks like we'll be able to judge for ourselves sometime soon. Although no official release date has been set, some are suggesting it could be as soon as December.
Come back Em! Sure, your lyrics about your ex-wife and mum were one brick short of a load and a tad unsettling, but it sure beats the current offerings of bitches, hos, cars and bling!
Let's hope it's a return to form, 'cause it's just so empty without you.
