Armin Van Buuren’s guide to Ibiza
We caught up Dutch trance viking Armin Van Buuren while he was in Sydney for his Armin Only Intense Tour and as we’re celebrating Ibiza month on MTV Dance he let us in on a couple of top tips just for you.
The legendary producer and DJ has been summering on the Great White Island for over 10 years with residencies at some of the top clubs, so it’s safe to say he knows what he’s talkin’ bout…
Hire a car and head for the hills
The flashy lights and non-stop bustle of San Antonio is a veritable hedonistic playground for many but Mr Van Buuren says that the real beauty of Ibiza is when you escape to the beautiful secluded corners of the island. Your best bet is to hire a car and become one with nature (clothing optional).
“What I love about Ibiza is even if its peak season you can drive a car up to the north and you can find a private beach that nobody will be at. So you can be completely on you own even if its peak season – it’s phenomenal.”
Feast like a Spanish King
We’ve been told in no uncertain terms that we simply must head into town and try the array of fresh seafood on offer in the marina, but not on Monday as the fishermen have their day off on Sunday. Who are we to argue with that? For the culinary brave head to his favourite restaurant and try some Spanish delicacies.
“One of my favourite restaurants is Sa Capella, you have to go there. It’s near San Antonio, it’s beautiful, they cook the most amazing Ox Steak right on your table.”
Trance the night away
When it comes to partying in Ibiza this legend has his finger on the synthesizing pulse. There is something for everyone here no matter what you’re looking for but if his Sydney concert was anything to go by you’d be silly not to catch him this summer. He keeps getting invited back year after year and is undoubtedly the best person to remix the soundtrack of your Ibizan summer.
“I’ve been a resident at five clubs so far; one year at Eden, seven years at Amnesia, one year at Space, two years at Privilege and this year I will be at Ushuaia.”
