Five Producers You Need To Be Following
There’s no doubt that the social media game plays a big part of being a current and known big time DJ or Producer. Sure, music should always come first and that’s where the priorities should lay, but without a solid brand, fan engagement and social awareness, who are ‘ya?
There are so many different approaches that can be taken with social media and its capabilities. On one end of the scale there’s artists like ZHU and Golden Features that like to keep it all on the down low with a minimalist approach. It’s like hiding in plain sight – we all know what they’re doing and capable of, but at the same time keeping fans and the industry guessing. Right up the other end of the scale is your favorite funny guys Diplo and Dillon Francis, steaming 200+ seconds a day of Snapchats to millions of followers, amongst their Instagram, Facebook and Twitter interactions. Social media platforms are the now and they’re at the ready for unlimited exposure.
All right, enough words, more hilarious Snapchats. Here’s our pick of the top five DJ/Producers you need to be following...
Facebook: Dillon Francis
Oh man, where to start with this dude? He has got many alter egos, a mum that he loves sharing with the world and a social media game that could rival Mark Zuckerberg himself. Dillon Francis has got you covered across all platforms and entertainment preferences with his Snapchat story always full and Instagram and Facebook followers ticking over the millions. Whether it’s ‘Drunk Cooking with Dillon’, hilarious txt message exchanges with his mum, pet cat Mittens or epic live sets from around the world, DF wants you to love him. Did we mention alter egos? He seems to have quieted down with these features lately, but do some delving and you’ll meet Becky, Treva, DJ Rich as Fu*k, Rave Dad and of course, DJ Hanzel who’s always challenging the mainstream EDM scene to go ‘one deeper’. Some would say it was Dillon’s savvy social media game that threw him into the spotlight, but it can’t be denied that his talent behind the decks and original material alongside some of the biggest names in dance music has cemented that shiny blue official Facebook tick of approval. If you’re yet to follow, then take a break from this article and get on board.
Diplo’s social media streams pretty much depict the lifestyle that you and I dream of. A new country every week, beautiful women, fast cars, packed out arenas and famous friends at every turn. Diplo takes to Snapchat all day every day with exceptional results in keeping fans interacted and in the know. It’s also not unusual to see Diplo’s buddies Skrillex and Dillon Francis all Snapchatting each other at the same place and time with the same content, often hitting the stage together or flying in their private jets around the world. With Diplo being across a heap of EDM projects including himself as Diplo, Major Lazer and of course the most recent venture Jack Ü with Skrillex, he’s constantly touring and every day a new adventure to be taken; One week Australia, the next Brazil. Diplo is also quite the multi-tasking DJ, often playing to a crowd of tens-of-thousands while working the microphone and taking a Snapchat story for his legions of followers. It’s a whole load of constant fun with Diplo online.
Facebook: Tyler The Creator
Just take a look at his social media handles and you know this dude has something in store for you. We understand none of them and that’s fine. Sure, Tyler probably doesn’t fall under the label ‘DJ/Producer’, but how could we throw out a list like this without Odd Future’s funny man Tyler The Creator. His anything goes, I don’t give a shit ethos is probably the best thing about him and luckily for all those digital socialites like you and me, this is exactly how he comes across online too. The caps lock key is constantly pushed down as he fires cheeky Twitter jabs at anyone from Jayden Smith to Miley Cyrus; the rapper does and says what he wants and it’s amazing. Instagram is just as funny while on Facebook he seems to share his favorite tracks going around. Tyler is angry, cruel, cool and just plain hysterical.

Paul ‘Fish’ Fisher and Leigh "Sedz" Sedley are two LA-based Gold Coast expats that built their name and kick-ass funny brand through pro-surfing in their early days and now focus their attention towards DJing and producing indulgent house music. You can find the boys smeared over Instagram with short but sweet videos that pretty much give you an idea of their lavish, wild and wet lifestyle as pro surfer x music producers. On Facebook they’re often sharing their hilarious happenings through videos and posts of wherever they are in the world, and Twitter, just being general trolls (poor Taylor Swift). Last month they took to Miami for the infamous Holy Ship, delivering a hectic and straight up loose Aussie recap of their time, while April sees the duo hit Australia for their ‘Jungle Shrimp’ tour. These two dudes will leave you in stiches at your computer and on the dance floor – follow the Fish and Sedz!
