REPORTS: TikTok Is Paying David Dobrik Significant Dollars So He'll Keep Using The App
The payments are part of the platform’s new USD$200 million venture, called Creators Fund, which is currently funding 19 creators. Justice Alexander, Michael Le, Marissa Ren and Ross Smith will also receive money, according to reports. It’s unclear how much or how often the creators will see some cash.
The timing of the venture suggests it was created to tackle two of TikTok’s biggest headaches right now.
Headache number one: Last week, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order effectively banning Chinese-owned TikTok unless the app is sold to a US buyer by mid-September. You can read more about that here.
Headache number two: Instagram just launched new feature Reels, which lets users create short video snippets that can be edited and overlaid with music. Essentially, it does everything TikTok does, and you don't have to leave Instagram to do it.

As you can see, TikTok is in quite the pickle. Cue the new fund.
At the time of its launch in late July, a spokesperson described the fund as a way to support ambitious creators who “are seeking opportunities to foster livelihood” on the app. Currently, it's only being offered to creators in the US, but the company says it hopes to open it up to the global community and, within the next three years, increase the amount from $200 million to $1 billion US dollars. That's a lot.
Oh, and if you fancy yourself a budding TikTok star and are wondering whether you might be eligible, here are the qualifications: you must be 18 or older, have 10K+ followers, have accrued at least 10K video views in the last 30 days and be posting original content. Good luck.
If they don't throw some significant dollars Rohit's way, we quit everything.
