You can never underestimate the power of fandom.
Before her recent hospitalisation, Demi Lovato was scheduled to perform a free concert at Atlantic City, New Jersey as part of the Atlantic City BeachFest Concert Series. However, she was obviously forced to withdraw her headlining slot. That didn't stop Lovatics from showing up and showing out.
According to E! News, tons of fans rocked up to the venue, wearing shirts donned with Lovato's face and holding posters with words of encouragement for the singer.
Paige Robison and Jake Rudzinski, who helped rally the fans for this special occasion, spoke to E! News about how the whole event came about.
"A couple days ago with the events that happened with Demi, we found out that the show was canceled, and a lot of people traveled from Canada, Indiana, Illinois, Chicago," Robinson said. "We were all looking forward to the concert and the disappointment of it not going on, it being cancelled, it motivated me to want to still get the people who traveled all this way together to show our support to Demi to let her know that we love her, we care for her and we're going to stand by her."
"I felt like in this time we needed to be around people who understood what we were going through. This fandom is a family and it made us feel connected and we couldn't thank Demi more for that and we just wanted to show our support for her."
They reportedly live-streamed the event, taking requests from Lovatics all across the world for songs to sing, including 'Confident', 'Tell Me You Love Me' and Lovato's newest song, 'Sober', which acted as an admission that she had relapsed.
"We just want her to know that we are still here and we love her so much," Rudzinski said. "She always says 'Stay strong' and that's what we want to do."
As of right now, Lovato remains in hospital. Check out a video of the fans singing Lovato's hit 'Tell Me You Love Me' below.
