Em: Stunt or Not?
Anyone who doesn’t know about the moment that characterized the 2009 MTV Movie Awards by now must have been living under a very big, heavy rock.
It was of course the moment where Sacha Baron Cohen’s outrageous new incarnation, Austrian fashionista Bruno, flew threw the air (on suspension wires) and unceremoniously landed on Eminem’s face.
As if that wasn’t eyebrow-raising enough, Bruno was dressed in a bondage angel costume at the time - complete with thong - so it was his bare arse that said hello first.
After the rapper’s bouncers had dragged Bruno off their boss, Shady was then seen charging out of the show, mouthing the words: “What the f*ck?”
It all looked very authentic but whether the ‘Relapse’ rhyme-spitter was in on the prank or had really been taken in by it is still a mystery. The show’s producers are remaining tight-lipped – even with us at MTV.
The LA Times reckon it was a set-up reporting that an insider told them before the show that Eminem’s appearance was “going to be epic”. But then that could have referred to the rapper’s two-song medley, surely?
The rag also used the argument that it was too much of a coincidence that there were cameras strategically placed to catch the precise moment of arse land-age. But then Em and Bruno were two of the biggest names at the show, so surely it makes sense that the cameras would be on ‘em?
Meanwhile, gossip queen Perez Hilton reports that Paris Hilton had originally intended to be part of the elaborate gag but pulled out at the last minute (in fear she might gag?) and Eminem took over. An insider revealed: "Paris is quite happy she turned down the offer."
Mysterious and mysteriouser…
Stars who attended the show went Twitter-tastic after watching the drama unfold. Soulja Boy Tweeted: "Whooaaa!!!!! This naked dude just landed on Eminem in the audience ... Yooo Em is MAD!!!! That was messed up!!!”
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest mused: “I have to think somehow Em's people knew Sacha would be lowered but might have been pissed about the full moon in his face."
’Transformers’ actor Tyrese, meanwhile, summed up everyone’s take on the incident: "I don't know if the Em moment was real or not. But I tell you what there is no BIGGER moment than that in this show.”
But the last word surely has to go to Borat - Baron-Cohen’s other outrageous creation: "I found out last night that Eminem got his name from the size of his package."
Ouch. Mr Mathers, it’s over to you…
