EXCLUSIVE: Flight Facilities Tease New Music & A Brand New Set In 2017
Flight Facilities really came into their own in 2016 selling out shows and headlining festivals at home and abroad. So how do you continue to kick goals when you hit a peak?
MTV Australia caught up with Hugo and Jimmy at Lost Paradise in Glenworth Valley before their midnight set on New Year's Eve to get the lowdown on what's next for duo in 2017...
MTV: Congrats on the Sydney Symphony Orchestra gig the reviews were phenomenal - how do you think you can top it?
Flight Facilities: It was hard to know what it was going to be like, that was our biggest worry. We just wanted it to be the best experience for people. For us personally we don’t know, that’s why we liked keeping it rare. We want people to say, ‘I was at that one,’ so they feel like they were part of something special.
We didn’t think we were big enough for it so we though about it for about a year, and then it sold out in two minutes… We had the best night.
MTV: What are the plans for new music?
FF: We’ve got about 20 songs, but they’re only 60% ready at this point. We’ve got one finished that we’ll release as a single, but we’re debating what platform we want to release it on.
We feel it’s our duty as artists to reinvent how we do things. When you release an album, three of them get heard at the most so we’ll be trying to change it up.
MTV: What do you want to leave in 2016 and what do you want to take forward into 2017?
FF: The show we’re performing tonight is the last time we’re performing it in Australia, so we’ll be changing the set around.
We’re planning on adopting some stuff from further back and using it to move forward. We need to freshen our set and evolve, but make it even more fun. There was some stuff we did in the past that worked really well like using elements of DJ sets and playing covers. That makes it a bit more fun and a bit more like a party.
MTV: Have you ever been to Lost Paradise before?
FF: It’s our first time! I like the small stages because the larger stages feel naked, but when it’s smaller there’s a bit more of a vibe.
