Splendour headliner cancels, Foals take the reins
It’s ok guys! Calm your Splendour farm because although Splendour in the Grass is just around the corner and there has been another band drop out, organisers have made sure there won’t be too much of a hipster backlash!
Front man for the UK indie rock band Two Door Cinema Club, Alex Trimble, has recently been suffering from ill health, which has obviously become worse over the last few days.
“It is with a heavy heart that we are going to need to cancel our upcoming trip to Australia for Splendour,” write the band.
“Alex collapsed at Seattle airport on the way to London and has been hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint. We are devastated to have to cancel this show that we were so looking forward to. We can only apologise and hope for your understanding at this time.”
Organisers have no further information about the status of Trimble’s health, but “send him and the band our best and wish him a speedy recovery!”
So because of the unfortunate cancellation, bands have been added and re-arranged to fill the gap TDC has made.
City & Colour will now headline the Amphitheatre on Saturday night and “eleventh hour saviours,” Foals will fly in for 48 hours for a Splendour-exclusive performance in the country which made their album number one!
It seems organisers for SITG should be used to this happening by now after R&B singer and Odd Future affiliate Frank Ocean cancelled his highly anticipated performance last year due to damaged vocal cords.
However, he was replaced by then relatively little-known New Zealand singer Lorde, who has since exploded onto the music scene.
Two Door Cinema club are not the first act to cancel their Splendour 2014 appearance either.
Nashville band The Wild Feathers also announced their cancellation “due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts,” but were immediately replaced by New South Wales outfit MT Warning.
If you purchased a single day ticket just to see Two Door Cinema Club, then Moshtix are offering refunds for the Saturday July 26th single ticket, so head to the website before 5pm Monday July 21st to get your money back.
Otherwise, get ready for a pretty epic ‘Splendour bender!’
