Generik is having the biggest year of his DJ career, here's why
Generik (Tyson O’Brien IRL) has been locked in the studio since the release of his hit ‘The Weekend’ featuring Nicky Van She.
With four records simmering including a remix of Hayden James’ ‘Something About You’ to drop in the next few weeks, 2015 is already massive for the Aussie DJ.
He’s also been tapped to head up the remix of Aboriginal anthem, Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty’. “It’s pretty daunting,” he says. “I’m going to put a 2015 house vibe on it, similar to what I’ve done [with] the Hayden James Remix I’ve got coming.”
Until then Generik is busy brewing several more tracks in time for a number of shows across the world, including his first set in Vegas with Calvin Harris at Omnia and Wet Republic.
“He’s [Calvin Harris] like my older brother but minus the wedgies,” he explains after our audible gasps over his celebrity connections. “I was on tour with Calvin Harris and we were playing at this like mega bottle club [with] like 500 bottle service people…I ended up stealing a whole bunch of bottles of champagne and sparklers I was just drinking them at the front of the casino in Monaco in front of all these Lamborghinis and Bugattis [until] 4am.”
So basically Generik is going to be the next member of Taylor Swift’s squad, and we couldn’t be more jealous.
“I just want to sleep with her hot friends, now that would be awesome.“ Wouldn’t we all.
If Tyson’s life couldn’t get any better he will end 2015 with a semi-holiday in Fiji for a gig at boutique island festival, Your Paradise.
“I’ve never been to Fiji,” he explains. “So it’s going to be like waking up on Christmas morning and you haven’t been snooping through your parent’s closet and you actually are genuinely surprised about what you have underneath the tree. I think Your Paradise to me is going to be like Christmas morning.”
“Being a DJ you don’t leave the nightclub or bed very often or the studio, so I’m just excited to be able to go and actually have a holiday, seeing the day light, walking down the beach with a few friends, drinking some coconuts, doing some tanning and swimming.”
In fact most of the lineup are Tyson’s close personal friends, including Whats So Not and Touch Sensitive.
When asked if we could expect pranks, room raiding and the like, Tyson is quick to confirm, “You know what it’s like, when boys get together and there’s alcohol involved, there’s usually a few stories that will come out of it.”
But don’t expect Generik’s traditional club vibe. “I’m going to play like very island, very like tropical island house…music you wanna be able to dance to, get your freak on in the sand and in the water and very sunshine vibes.”
We can’t wait.
