All the action from the 2012 ARIA Awards!
With international guests like Russell Brand, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift in the house for the ’2012 ARIA Awards’, it was always going to be a stellar night. But it was the Aussie musicians that really stole the show, in a ceremony that held audiences captivated from start to finish!
While the red carpet is merely a precursor to the main event, it was all go out front of the Sydney Entertainment Centre as crowds waited in the blistering sun to get a glimpse of their favourite stars.
Timomatic and the Justice Crew kept the crowd amped as they hit the red rug to perform a mash-up of their two hit singles. Jessica Mauboy then gave a saucy medley of songs from her film ‘The Sapphires.’
Inside the venue, the awards kicked off with a bang as the Hilltop Hoods opened the show with a performance of their track ‘Drinking From The Sun.’ Guy Sebastian surprised the audience by bringing his mate Lupe Fiasco along to help him perform their number one single ‘Battle Scars.’
Later in the night Taylor Swift ditched her elegant Elie Saab frock and threw on a letterman jacket and hotpants for an energetic performance of ‘I Knew You Were Trouble.’
“There’s nothing like the Australian fans and you guys have been unbelievable to me – and I’ve also had an amazing time enjoying the Australian music tonight,” said the singer before presenting an award.
The star of the show however, was Gotye, who took home four ARIAs - Album of the Year, Best Male Artist, Best Pop Release and Best Australian Live Act. His ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ buddy Kimbra took out the title of Best Female Artist for the second time.
“This means a lot to me. What a whirlwind year it has been and what a way to top it off,” said the singer after accepting her award.
Other winners included rockers The Temper Trap, picking up Best Group and Best Rock Album, The Jezebels, who took out Best Independent Release, and Song of the Year went to Matt Corby for his single ‘Brother.’
In the hip-hop category, rapper 360 nabbed the title of Breakthrough Artist of the Year, while Hilltop Hoods won Urban Album of the Year.
