The first performance of the night comes from Ylvis, who have hit the red carpet to perform their viral hit, ‘The Fox (What Does the Fox Say).’ There are fox suits. And fox masks. What the fox? Way to get the party started guys – the Ziggo Dome is officially going off!
Katy Perry hits the red carpet:
The ‘Roar’ star is looking sizzling tonight in sleek silver with an intricate metallic headpiece. She didn’t give away any secrets about what we can expect from her performance though. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Katy Perry performs ‘Unconditionally’:
As the third performer of the evening, Katy Perry takes to the EMA stage with her ballad, ‘Unconditionally.’ Standing high up on a podium looking down on the crowd, the singer is wrapped in colourful ribbons held by her group of dancers. It’s like something out of Cirque du Soleil, as Katy launches off the podium and is flown above the audience on a trapeze!
Rita Ora presents Best Hip-Hop:
Ellie Goulding presents Best Alternative:
Thirty Seconds to Mars has scooped the award for Best Alternative – an award which acknowledges artists who are breaking new ground in the musical landscape. “Thank you to the dreamers, to the believers, to the people who have had faith in us and made our dreams come true,” said Jared Leto in this acceptance speech.
Kings of Leon perform ‘Beautiful War’:
The Nashville rockers take the stage to perform their spine-tingling track, ‘Beautiful War,’ with fireworks raining down from the roof and the stage lit with brilliant red lights.
And the award for Best Female goes to…
Katy Perry! Beating out Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, the EMA performer accepts her award dressed in a black mesh mini-dress. “This is so cool! I was just sitting back there drinking a champagne looking at all those amazing artists, thinking ‘I’m not going to win!’” gushed the star, adding: “The KatyCats are the strongest biggest fan group ever!”
Bruno Mars performs ‘Gorilla’:
Proving he is every bit deserving of his Best Song EMA, Bruno Mars stuns the crowd with a performance of his epic ballad, ‘Gorilla,’ accompanied by full band and one very limber pole dancer.

Three more awards have just been handed out! Best New goes to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Best Rock to Green Day and Best Electronic to Avicii.
Justin Bieber wins Best Male!
Sadly Justin isn’t at the EMA to accept his award, but we’re sure he’s thinking this is anything but a ‘Bad Day.’ Sorry, we just couldn’t help ourselves…
Miley Cyrus takes the stage again!
If opening the show wasn’t enough, Miley Cyrus is back to perform her hit ‘Wrecking Ball.’ With no massive swinging balls, sledge hammers or giant soft toys to distract the crowd, the 20-year-old showcases her stunning vocal talents and proves that she really is one super talented lady. Nice one Miley!

As the biggest selling artist of the last decade, the real Slim Shady is undoubtedly one of the most influential artists of our time. Before accepting his award, the rapper takes the stage to perform his track ‘Berzerk’ followed by the fast-paced tongue-twister, ‘Rap God.’
Receiving the Global Icon award from Ron Burgundy following his performance Eminem said: “This is nuts. Thank you to everyone for everything over the years, man. MTV Europe, thank you!”

The Best Video award goes to…
Miley Cyrus for ‘Wrecking Ball’! “First I would like to thank of course all of my fans – my smilers for making this happen – and Terry Richardson for putting this together,” declares the star before lighting up a smoke on stage. Well it’s not an MTV awards show without something controversial going down, right Miley?
Imagine Dragons perform!
American alternative rockers, Imagine Dragons, take to the stage to perform their worldwide hit ‘Radioactive.’ The drum-filled track features not only your everyday drum kit, but also several gigantic bongo drums which are bashed dramatically throughout the performance. Oh and there’s a glitter cannon! We love glitter cannons!
Icona Pop perform ‘I Love It’:
‘I Love It’ has been one of the biggest pop anthems of the year and trust us, the crowd went absolutely wild when Icona Pop began belting out the track immediately following Imagine Dragons. Starting off by singing the first few lines a capella, the duo quickly picked the beat right up to perform the anthem we all know in love. PS. More glitter cannons!

Redfoo officially closes out the EMAs for another year by blasting off into outer space (or at least, backstage) via the same intergalactic channel that Miley Cyrus used to enter the Ziggo Dome.
