America Ferrera Speaks Out On Being Sexually Assaulted When She Was Just 9-Years-Old
As more women come forward to tell their stories of abuse in light of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the whole sitation truly becomes more and more heartbreaking/infuriating/empowering.
Today actress America Ferrera has taken to Instagram to add her own experience to the growing #metoo movement where she details being sexually assaulted at just 9-years-old.
“I told no one and lived with the shame and guilt thinking all along that I, a 9 year old child, was somehow responsible for the actions of a grown man,” she wrote. "I had to see this man on a daily basis for years to come. He would smile at me and wave, and I would hurry past him, my blood running cold."
No two stories of abuse can be compared but when it happens to a child, it makes for a sickening but important addition to the dialogue about how to change this culture.
The 33-year-old's admission comes just one day after Reese Witherspoon addressed the Elle Women In Hollywood event with a story of her own, stating she had been assaulted by a director and 16-years-old.
The deluge of women bravely standing up and telling their stories will not be forgotten and let's hope this will the beginning of sh*t like this NEVER happening again.
