VIC’s Restaurants, Cafes & Pubs With Dining Areas Will Reopen For Up To 20 People In A Few Weeks
Victorians will be able to dine out again at restaurants, cafes and bars from June 1st. The reopening of dine-in venues with a max of 20 people was announced this morning by Premier Dan Andrews.
Of course, the 1.5m social distancing rule and one person per 4sqm limit will still need to be observed. Andrews also made it clear that these venues would face a "long and extensive" list of rules before they could officially reopen, including cleaning and temperature checks.
Andrews also released info around the further easing of restictions, announcing that June 22, venues would be able to host up to 50 people per enclosed space, and from mid-July, patron limits would be increased to 100 people.
Andrews took the time to again reitorate the importance of social distancing, saying: "This will only work if those who are going out to a cafe, or those who are going out for a meal at a restaurant, or going to the bistro in a pub, actually follow those rules."
The change comes off the back of the latest coronavirus testing data that shows just 25 positive tests in the state.
This past Wednesday, lifted restrictions allowed Victorians to have visitors in their homes and gather outdoors in groups of 10. At the time of the announcement, VIC Premier Daniel Andrews said: "This is not over, I wish it were, but it's not over. It's not an invitation to be having a dinner party at every house, every night. It's the first opportunity for a first step that is safe, cautious and appropriate."
The announcement came after ScoMo’s outline on Friday of the three-step plan designed to get the country out of lockdown restrictions. In the presser, the PM explained it would be up to individual states and territories to decide when to start each step and which specific rules to follow.
As of last Wednesday, Victorians are now allowed...
- Five visitors to your home
- Gatherings of up to 10 people outdoors
- Up to 10 wedding guests, 20 funeral guests indoors (30 outdoors)
- To visit national parks
- To visit open houses including auctions
