Your m8 James Mathison Is Running Against Tony Abbott In The Federal Election Coz He's Bloody Fed Up
You might remember James Mathison from such gigs as being a Channel V host back in the early 00's, or from hosting Australian Idol, or from the number of network TV and radio shows he featured on in the years since. However one occupation not synonymous with his name is...a politician.
In an exclusive interview with MTV Australia, Mathison, has announced he will be running against former Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, for the seat of Warringah in the upcoming federal election. If this comes as a bit of shock to you then we're going to tell you why it shouldn't. ICYMI there has been a growing feeling of unrest amongst the youth of Australia. Dissatisfied and fed up with not being heard, Mathison, 38, has decided to actually stand up and do something about it. #AussieBattler.
If you were a betting man you'd hardly call this an easy feat for Matho. Warringah is well known as being one of the safest seats for the Liberal party and has been dominated by Abbott in recent history. Basically big Tones has set up camp and doesn't feel like leaving any time soon. But you can't shoot a man down for taking a stand against adversity, no matter how impossible the the challenge seems. That would be bloody un-Strayan.
If his nomination to run feels like it comes a little from left field, that might be because it is. It was news to us that Mathison even had any political aspirations but the tip off might have been a few weeks ago when he was forcibly removed by police whilst protesting against the removal of a century old Moreton Bay fig at Moore Park. If this was the catalyst that sparked this journey he certainly started with a bang.
As a disgruntled generation we can only make so many viral vids that virtually stick up the middle finger to the older generation running this country before someone actually has to pull their finger out and do something. And it looks like Mathison is gonna be that guy.
If this whole thing ends up going bust for Mathison, it's not all bad news bears. After all it might just give some of you some #Pinspo (political inspo) to get out there and have a say!
