#MTVItGirls Spotlight: Kate Peck
MTV Style: Can you tell us what defines an “It Girl”?
Kate Peck: I think an “it girl” is somebody who is confident in themselves. I think that everybody has an “it girl” inside them and that it just takes a little bit of confidence to bring out that sparkle and that shine; and it’s not just about buying the best designer clothing or being the trendiest person out there. I think it’s more about just believing in what you think is cool, and just rolling with it.
MTV Style: We have three diverse It Girls featuring in the series...what kind of It Girl are you?
Kate Peck: I guess my spotlight is television and MTV so probably the pop culture “it girl” stuff. My background is modelling here and internationally, so modelling probably as well. My access to celebrities as well, and the exclusive events, and just giving them a good insight behind the fashion shows, and what goes on on the red carpets, and getting an insight into talent. And being able to connect face-to-face with the talent.
MTV Style: What makes Mimi Elashiry an It Girl?
Kate Peck: I think she’s really organic and really fresh, and she walks to the beat of her own drum. I think as an “it girl”, it’s important to walk to the beat of your own drum. I think that’s what makes a lot of “it girls”, “it girls”. And I think that Mimi does that well.
MTV Style: What makes Alexandra Spencer an It Girl?
Kate Peck: I think Alex is unique. She’s got a really interesting, sophisticated, but very loose style. She is naturally very gorgeous and really approachable. She’s really fun to hang out with. She just is what she is. She is very honest and just has a really natural sense of style.
MTV Style: What can viewers expect from the MTV It Girls series?
Kate Peck: It’s a more down-to-earth insight into behind-the-scenes of the fashion world and the world of style. It’s more easy to digest. It’s not high-end or anything. We want to show what the everyday “it girl” can go out and do and achieve. And show them how to get there. And hopefully inspire them but show them that it is a possibility to go out there and to achieve these great things in fashion and in style, and to become an “it girl”. And we’ll hopefully be able to show them the process of that, with the chats we have with designers and stylists and everything else. And the step-by-step collaborations that we do. I think the personalities in it are really different too. We’re pretty flamboyant, all of us. I think we are going to bring a real edge. It’s a really cool show. We don’t want it to be super mainstream. We don’t want it to be the most popular, trendy thing. We want it to be unique and individual. It doesn’t have to be mainstream for those people to find something that they like, something that they probably can’t get on that other TV show, or in the mainstream.
MTV Style: Of what you filmed what do you think fans are going to love the most?
Kate Peck: I think they’re going to enjoy seeing something different, that they’re not going to be able to find anywhere else. Like our access and our relationships already with the designers that we’re working with, or just collaborations that we’re doing, you won’t be able to see that anywhere else. And our personalities, and what we’re going to bring to the show, I think will give it a different dynamic. Because we’re all so different to each other as well. I think it’ll make it something really unique and special. It’s very accessible. I think we want to give the viewers is something that they feel like they can go out and achieve, and inspire them to get out there and do it. And hopefully at the end of each episode, they’ll think, that was really cool and I like that, and I’m going to go out and try to do something similar.
MTV Style: What was your favourite part about filming the series?
Kate Peck: I guess getting to know the other girls, Mimi and Alexandra, because they’re really interesting people and they have great taste in fashion and style. But also talking to the designers and models, and really getting to ask them the questions that I want to know, and finding out more about how they got started. And trying to inspire myself to realise that everybody starts from somewhere. You can go out there and achieve great things, you don’t have to be the most amazing person ever. You just have to work hard and have confidence in what you do, and get to it.
MTV Style: What was the most challenging part about filming?
Kate Peck: Finding so many outfits to wear? There wasn’t anything that challenging about it! I guess just working with everybody else’s hectic schedules. And making sure that we got enough time with each person, and that we were able to communicate what we wanted to get across to the audience of how to be an “it girl”.
MTV Style: If there was a blooper reel for MTV It Girls how would you feature?
Kate Peck: I tripped over on the catwalk in rehearsals at fashion week, so that was really fun! So we all had a good laugh. What else happened? Oh, one of the models farted when I was interviewing them. It was a guy. He was a bit excited.
