#MTVItGirls Spotlight: Alexandra Spencer
MTV Style: Can you tell us what defines an “It Girl”?
Alexandra Spencer: I think an it girl is somebody who knows who she is and what she’s about. There’s nothing more interesting or authentic to me than that, which is ultimately what I find the most inspiring thing about women.
MTV Style: We have three diverse It Girls featuring in the series...what kind of It Girl are you?
Alexandra Spencer: I don’t know...I think that’s for you and the audience to decide, but I am hoping to be at least one of the top three it girls in the show!
MTV Style: What makes Mimi Elashiry an It Girl?
Alexandra Spencer: I think Mimi is just a tiny pure little ball of magic, you know? I think that everybody who sees her is just completely enamoured by her spark and I don’t think you can help it because she’s just so cute!
MTV Style: What makes Kate Peck an It Girl?
Alexandra Spencer: I think the thing about Kate is that she’s so well versed in this industry, you know, she’s worked in it for such a long time in so many different avenues, so I think that a lot of girls can learn from her what it’s like to model and what it’s like to be a presenter and what it’s like to go into that side of the business.
MTV Style: What can viewers expect from the MTV It Girls series?
Alexandra Spencer: I think it’s basically just a backstage pass into everybody’s lives, who we are behind social media and a look at how we do our jobs. It’s kind of like looking into people’s apartments in New York when the sun goes down…which I do love to do.
MTV Style: Of what you filmed what do you think fans are going to love the most?
Alexandra Spencer: Hopefully not the ads inbetween! Filming was such a whirlwind, but I hope they think it’s funny and interesting…
MTV Style: What was your favourite part about filming the series?
Alexandra Spencer: I’ve never done any interviewing before or filming in general, so that was all new to me, which was really fun. My team, you guys, made it so much fun and having my brother with me filming, which is always my favourite way to work. But we all just sort of all ran around winging it!
MTV Style: What was the most challenging part about filming?
Alexandra Spencer: The time was the most challenging and learning not to use my hands and microphone at the same time! And also remembering that there is a camera filming you at all times, and actually being mic’d up!
MTV Style: If there was a blooper reel for MTV It Girls how would you feature?
Alexandra Spencer: You’d have to check the microphone recordings...I had absolutely no interest in being aware that the mic was on, so I would keep forgetting that it was recording and I would go home at night and go, “oh wow…what did I say?!”
MTV It Girls airs Tuesdays at 8:25pm on MTV...
