James Charles Finally Responds To The Shane/Tati/Jeffree Drama In A Bizarre Paparazzi Clip

A new pap vid dropped on YouTube.

After weeks of drama and controversy in the beauty YouTuber world, James Charles has for the first time (kinda?) weighed in, just to say he’s very much keeping out of it.

In a video that dropped on YouTube today (Tuesday), a mask-wearing James is 'spotted' by a paparrazi and asked his thoughts on the controversies surrounding Shane Dawson, Tati Westbrook, Jeffree Star and himself.

“Hi, how did you even find me?” James asks the paparazzo. Good question James, how did he find you on this random suburban street and with your face covered in a face mask?

After a few testing-the-waters questions, the pap cuts to the chase, asking the question we've been wanting answered since the day Shane Dawson dropped the bomb that he was leaving the beauty YouTuber community and set off an alarming chain of events we're still reeling from. What are James' thoughts on the whole thing?

“So there’s a lot of drama going on in the makeup YouTube community,” the pap starts.“As always,” James replies.

The pap presses on, asking James specifically why that was. “Who knows,” James answers. “I’m just staying out of it, minding my own business. I just moved into a beautiful new house. I have great friends around me. Waiting for my nice food on a Sunday afternoon.” (The house is news to us?!)

The pap then also asks James whether Shane should be forgiven for what’s done – clearly referencing the resurfaced videos of Shane in blackface, using the ‘n word’ and sexualising a then 11-year-old Willow Smith. You can read all about that here

James at first refuses to comment, but when the pap asks whether he thinks people should overlook the dark humour that was acceptable a few years ago, James says this: “I think it should always be looked at on a case by case basis and make sure that people are changing actively. That’s kind of what I’ve always believed in,” he says.

The pap also takes the opportunity to ask James about the Tati video, but James isn’t having a bar of it. “I don’t really want to address anything regarding the drama,” he says. “I hope you don’t mind.” James, we absolutely do mind.

You can watch the vid here:

ICYMI, in late June, James announced that YouTube had renewed his showInstant Influencer, for a second season. A working theory on Twitter is that YouTube might just be instructing James to keep quiet on the latest controversies, in order to keep the platform's image as clean as possible. Tati also claimed that YouTube reps previously asked her to take down her infamous "Bye Sister" video for similar reasons. Hmm.

No doubt see ya tomorrow for another update.
