REPORTS: Jared Leto Was Fkn Fuming Over The New ‘Joker’ & Even Tried To Stop The Production
Uh oh, it sounds like Jared Leto is a little more than just salty with the new Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker. So much so, he tried to stop the whole production all together, and that sounds villainous if we ever heard it!
Reports are coming in that the 47-year-old actor, who portrayed the smiling anti-hero in the despised The Suicide Squad, was pretty pissed with Warner Bros for greenlighting a stand-alone for his character but with a different actor at the helm.
THR says the actor was “alienated and upset” with the studio’s decision, and look, kinda fair seeing as his preparation for the iconic role was quite intense.
It’s believed that Jared spent months getting into character, enduring isolation and sending his castmates horrific gifts like semen-soaked magazines and a dead pig…
“According to sources familiar with Leto’s behaviour, when the Oscar-winning actor learned of the [Todd] Phillips project, he not only complained bitterly to his agents at CAA, who also represent Phillips, but asked his music manager, Irving Azoff, to call the leader of Warners parent company (it’s unclear whether it was Time Warner’s Jeff Bewkes or AT&T’s Randall Stephenson, depending on the timing). The idea was to get Warners to kill the Phillips film,” the report details.
Leto is not set to reprise his role in the upcoming Birds of Prey spinoff or in The Suicide Squad’s sequel, meaning his Joker era is officially at an end.
“How do you play the Joker you established following [Phoenix]? It kind of ends his Joker run,” the source told THR. Absolutely a fair point, particularly considering the performance buzz surrounding Joaquin’s portrayal.
Joker is projected to gross a whopping US$700 million worldwide – a backend paycheck that would also send anyone seeing red, or neon green in this case.
Can’t say Jared’s clown is smiling all that much, but wow. If you haven’t seen Joker yet, you definitely need to (sorry Jared).
