Here's What A Week In Sydney Looks Like On A $45,000 Salary
Before we begin, here's a little background info. I'm a 25-year-old Digital Writer who lives in Sydney - Australia's most expensive city.
I get paid $45,000, which after my FEE-HELP debt and tax, comes to around $729 a week.
Each week, I pay pretty decent rent - only $190 (living with my boyfriend and his two mates in the Inner West has it's benefits).
Per month, I also pay a $50 phone bill which gives me as many GBs as humanly possible, $17.70 in basic health insurance, $60 for my cleaner (living with boys, remember?), $100 for my bus fares, $45 for the gym, $12 for a Spotify premium subscription, and at least $50 in Afterpay debts - my guilty pleasure/addiction.
As for Internet? We got fked over by our provider and now they give it to us free and I mooch off my parents Netflix, like the sweet millenial ~angel~ I am.
6:15am - The boyfriend is away on a work trip so it's just me. I'm struck with the Monday blues, but I bought three frozen Superfood meals yesterday for the week ahead...so life isn't so bad? I hop in the shower, dry my hair, get dressed and head into work. $19
8am - I head to Woolworths to stock up on lunch and breakfasts for the week (I eat these at work). I'm trying to be ~healthy~ so I go for oats and raspberries for breakfast. Rent is also due. $220
1pm - I also stocked up on ingredients this morning for a DIY burrito bowl for my lunches which includes tuna, spinach, brown rice, red onion, corn, guac, tomato and black beans. It's DELISH. Me and my work crew binge watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
5:30pm - I leave work, hop on the bus and my Opal card automatically tops up, then I head straight to the gym...but I indulge and buy a block of dark peppermint chocolate from the servo on my way home. $15
6pm - I inhale my Superfood bowl and eat two pieces of choc with a lemon and ginger tea before dozing off around 9:30pm.
Daily Total: $254
6am - I'm up early today to do my beauty routine before I film my weekly news segment at work.
8am - It's my usual oats and raspberries for breakfast. Nothin' spesh for a Tuesday.
12:30pm - Same goes for lunch - burrito bowl COME AT ME.
5:30pm - Time to head home and sweat it out at the gym.
8pm - I'm home and tucked up with my Superfood bowl and peppermint choc.
Daily Total: $0
6am - I'm up early again, but this time it's because we've got a PR event to attend down in Darling Harbour.
8am - Back to the office, but what was promised to be a "gourmet breakfast" was jut a cupcake and a mimosa...I'm still starving but it will have to do.
12:30pm - One of the work girls is having a rather sh*tty week so we take her out for lunch which equates to lots of pasta and multiple bottles of wine. $30
2pm - Hello Afterpay bill...$25
5:30pm - Dinner and sleepover at my parents tonight. As payback for a home cooked meal I provide the wine. $17.50
8:30pm - Fast asleep to Antiques Roadshow next to mum and dad on the couch. Why am I so fkn tired all the time?
Daily Total: $72.50
6:30am - Slower start for me today. Parents living closer to my bus stop has many perks.
8am - Pay day was yesterday so that means treat yo' self. Scrambled egg and bacon wrap and a coffee for me from the cafe near work. $10
12pm - Sometimes you can bank on free food around the office. Nothing today...guess it's just a burrito bowl for moi!
5:30pm - My girlfriend cancelled dinner plans at the ramen place, so I'm riding solo tonight. My Opal card automatically tops up on the bus home. $10
8pm - Superfood bowl, peppermint choc, lemon ginger tea, a facial, and 'Love' on Netflix while I drift off early.
Daily Total: $20
8am - It's FRIDAYYYY!! My work wife reminds me that we've got lunch out today so treating yo' self for breakfast is out of the question. I settle with oats and raspberries, but moments later am peer pressured into a green juice from the cafe around the corner. $8
12pm - It's a colleagues birthday today so we head to a pub around the corner. Me and two of my colleagues get a few beers plus some wings and chips to share. $24.50
2pm - One last rosé before we head back to the office won't hurt, right? $8
7pm - The boyfriend is home! Time for dinner and drinks in Redfern! $30
Daily Total: $70.50
10am - It's Saturday which means it's time to rellllaxxx. Breakfast out in Rozelle is in order, though. $25
11:30am - I'm booked in for a hair appointment that I've been putting off for weeks. My split ends are NOT PRETTY. $100
2pm - Coffee with a girlfriend I missed during the week. $4
7pm - Dinner out with the boyfriend and our best couple. $40
Daily Total: $169
9am - Yesterday was a little spenny, so ingredients to make eggs on toast from the supermarket and a coffee on the way home is the go. $10
1pm - Wine and lunch at my girlfriend's ridonkulous house in Vaucluse. She's providing the views, so I'm providing the wine and snacks. $20
6pm - Slightly tipsy and very tired from my week. The boyfriend suggest Uber Eats and I'm not going to argue. $25
Daily Total: $55

OK, sh*t. If we're hoping to go on that Euro trip next year like we've spoken about, I'm gonna have to seriously cut down on the lunches out and drinks.
