There's no secret that working from home is the ultimate goal. Being able to earn a salary, all while in your underwear and sprawled across your electric blanket, is the DREAM.
However it may not just be a dream. A 2014 survery of business leaders suggests that 50% of people will work remotely by 2020 to minimise overhead costs and promote more flexible and agile work environments [read: not an office job.]
In anticipation, we've put together a list of jobs - some traditional and others randomly unexpected - that will allow you to quit your cubicle 9-5, and start from your bedroom...
1. Web Developer/Graphic Designer
Information technology has the most growing demand of home-based hiring. Jobs such as custom website design, template modification, graphic design, code updates, etc. are all jobs that you can do from the comfort of your own home. You can work exclusively for a company, or you can freelance and charge per brief or per hour. Salaries for an at home graphic designer can be substantial. Ranging from $40,000-$70,000 per year. According to seek.com, it’s one of the highest demanded jobs in 2018.
2. Become an Airbnb Host
An Airbnb host can make on average $924 per month, all for very little effort. If you've got a spare space such as an unused granny flat or even just a room, you ought to consider putting it up on the site. AirBNB will allow you to list your property of others to book, giving you the freedom of making money from your own home. So if you love to meet new people and keep a clean house, get onto the site asap.
3. Try out Dogsitting
Yes, you can literally get paid for your obsession with dogs. Dogsitting can pay up to $1,000 per month, or whatever rate you choose to charge. You can decide whether you want the dog to come to you or for you to go to them, but the biggest bonus is having a new canine pal to shower with your undying love. 4. Are you an Accountant?
You may require some additional credentials, but being an accountant could be a high paying job that you can do from your home. Financial planning, tax management and investment planning, are all tasks that are in high demand, and you don’t need to work in an office to complete them. So, if you’re good with numbers and love math, you could be earning $50,000-$120,000 per year without leaving your front door.
5. Market Research
Don't worry, this isn't one of those things where you get experimented on for money. Market research predominantly involves surveys, which all can be done from the comfort of a computer screen. Surveys can pay from $1 to $50, depending on the time taken to complete it. Topics can range from shopping habits to food consumption, and can also stretch into product reviews. 6. Become a Travel Agent
There are many jobs for travel agents who prefer working at home. Companies such as American Express hire consultants who serve online clients who are looking to book or enquire about a holiday. Tasks include taking inbound calls to schedule flights, hotels and car reservations. At-home travel agents are a hugely populating sector, with many of them earning almost $100,000 per year. Hours are flexible, and can include anything from full time to part time work. And yes, you still get those insane travel perks.
7. Writing or Editing
The publishing industry is not as low in demand as it seems. Online writing, editing and proofreading jobs have seen a huge increase in demand, and it’s a field that prefers freelancers who work from home. Building up your portfolio is essential, and it will land you more gigs. Writers are normally on a freelance salary, but can earn anything from $25,000 - $90,000.
8. Start a YouTube Channel
We promise that this isn't as cringe as it's made out to be. YouTubers and Vloggers can earn $1-$2 per 1,000 hits, with tutorials alone getting 20,000-300,000 views on average.
All you need is a camera and a cute setting in your house. Make whatever kind of videos you want - tutorials, vlogs, cooking, challenges - whatever your heart desires. The more different and niche the better. Successful YouTubers are making millions of dollars per year, and some of their content is stuff that you do every single day.
9. Transcribe Audio Files
It's as simple as it sounds. Listen to an audio file and type out whatever you hear. No catch! A transcriber can make up to $25 per hour or more, and you don't need any experience.
