Katy Perry steals Justin Bieber’s Twitter crown
Katy Perry has officially been crowned Twitter Queen, becoming the most followed person on the social media site.
The 29-year-old managed to rack up an impressive 46,560,369 followers over the weekend, ending Justin Bieber’s nine-month reign.
But the ‘Beauty and a Beat’ singer – who stole the title from Lady Gaga at the beginning of the year – isn’t far behind, trailing with 46,524,773 followers as of this morning.
The ‘Roar’ singer is also dominating in the Facebook arena, with 59.26 million friends to Bieber’s 57.28 million.
While K-Pez is yet to comment on her new title, the ‘California Gurl’ did dish her best social media tips in a recent interview with USA Today, admitting that she’s finally “learned how to tame that social media dragon.”
“When you decide to have a glass of wine, put the phone down,” she advised. “Don’t drink and tweet.”
Perry also warned against using Twitter to diss rumours, arguing that it only fuels the fire.
“I see a lot of celebrities send out messages like that online, and I think, ‘Sweetheart, nobody knows about this so-called issue because we don't have you on Google Alert. You're just throwing another log on the fire.’ I do it only in extreme cases if someone is jeopardising my character,” she said.
“If you tried to please everyone, you'd have no sense of self,” she added. “You'd lose yourself in the process of being a people-pleaser and there'd be nothing unique left.”
Perry’s third album, ‘PRISM’ is out now.
