BREAKING: Karl Stefanovic Has Officially Left The Today Show
The Today Show is about to look verrrry different, with the news that Karl Stefanovic has left the show.
The news of Karl's departure comes after months of speculation, and just one day after his brother, Peter Stefanovic announced he was leaving the network "to explore new opportunities."
A statement from The Today Show's news director Darren Wick read, "Nine and Karl Stefanovic have agreed it is time for him to step off the Today show."
"Karl remains on contract with the network and will continue to host This Time Next Year."
Karl said in a statement, "For the last 14 years I've co-hosted the best show on television. I can't thank Nine enough for the opportunity. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be good enough to host this grand show for so long."
"Thanks to our viewers mostly, you are what matters most. It's been a tough time. Thanks for hanging in there. I look forward to seeing you in another capacity at this great Network soon."
In March of this year, Karl issued a public apology when the details of an embarrassing phone call he took in an Uber leaked. During the phone call with his brother, Karl dragged his fellow Channel Nine colleagues, which many believe kickstarted the rumours he would be let go from the show.
Karl's swift exit from the show begs a few questions, like - who is going to take his place? Dickie Wilkins? and what are we going to do without this iconic laugh!?
Only time will tell..
