Here's The Real-Life 'Fault In Our Stars' Couple & You're Going To Need Tissues
Finishing the book or movie 'The Fault In Our Stars' the only thing that helped while we cried in fetal position was telling ourselves that it was just fiction.
Prepare fetal position.
Katie and Dalton Prager are the couple who both suffer from the lung disease, cystic fibrosis. The two met on Facebook when they were 18, bonding over their similar situations and eventually falling for one another. Despite her doctor's warnings, Katie needed to meet Dalton even though patients with cystic fibrosis were at risk of spreading infection to one another. Due to their relationship, Katie contracted the same infection Dalton had but she held no regrets.
"I told Dalton I'd rather be happy — like really, really happy — for five years of my life and die sooner than be mediocre happy and live for 20 years," Katie revealed to CNN.
In 2011, the couple were married, both recieved lung transplants and things were beginning to look up for them. However, both began experiencing complication as a result of their transplant.
This July, they celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary, the last time they would see each other as they then had to go seperate ways in order to receive treatment. Dalton's conditioned worsened and even though it was Katie's last wish to see her husband before he passed, niether were well enough to make the trip.
"I think that if we had gotten the chance to write a book that it would have been a bestseller," she confessed CNN. She had a very simple answer to how to story would end, "And they lived happily ever after," Katie said. "In each other's arms for eternity."
Katie passed away 5 days after Dalton.
