The Internet Is Kicking Off Over Kim Kardashian's New Shapewear Line 'Kimono'
Kim Kardashian is the queen of diversifying her income streams, but her latest business venture is causing some definite controversy.
On Wednesday the TV mogul revealed a new body-inclusive shapewear line called Kimono.
Finally I can share with you guys this project that I have been developing for the last year. I’ve been passionate about this for 15 years. Kimono is my take on shapewear and solutions for women that actually work. I would always cut up my shapewear to make my own styles, and there have also been so many times I couldn’t find a shapeware color that blended with my skin tone so we needed a solution for all of this. The third pic is the solution short. I developed this style for all of those times I wanted to wear a dress or skirt with a slit and still needed the support. Introducing Kimono Solutionwear™ for every body. Coming Soon in sizes XXS - 4XL in 9 shades. I can’t wait for you to feel this fabric!#KimonoBody @kimono Photos by Vanessa Beecroft
Don’t get me wrong, we LOVE a good pun, especially when it comes to including your own name. But Kim’s team seem to have overlooked the importance of the word ‘Kimono’, and associating it with underwear does seem like a slap in the face to Japanese culture.
Kimonos are traditional Japanese robes worn for important public holidays and festivals, and formal occasions. They are not sucky-in undies that make a woman have the perfect hourglass figure.
And it seems the Internet is in agreeance, with the hashtag #KimOhNo trending on Twitter.
Kimono: has a centuries long rich history and is deeply embedded in the traditions and culture of a country.

While a shapewear line that caters to a wide variety of sizes and nine skin shades is a great idea, the name is not so much.
We suggest ‘Skimmers’, ‘Skimpily’ or ‘Akimbo’ as some appropriate puns for a rename.
