K-Pop Star Hara Releases Heartbreaking Statement Following Suicide Attempt
K-pop singer Goo Hara has released a statement following her suicide attempt at her home on May 26.
“I’m truly sorry for causing concern due to the recent event. I am currently recovering my health. I was feeling distressed due to various incidents that piled up. I will try my best to show a healthy side of myself by having a stronger mindset. I am truly sorry about the recent incident,” Hara, of the former girl group Kara, said in the statement.
The 28-year-old singer and actress was found by her manager, unconscious in a smoke-filled room on Sunday after she posted an ominous “Goodbye” on her Instagram.
The “various incidents that piled up” include testifying against her ex and past soccer player Choi Jong Bum for abuse and blackmail.
Her court appearance has been shelved to allow Hara to make a full recovery, with the new court date set for July 25.
The K-Pop world was rocked back in December 2017 when Kim Jong-Hyun, of boy band Shinee, committed suicide following a battle with depression.
The 27-year-old singer wrote in a final message, "I'm broken from the inside ... The depression that has slowly eaten away at me has finally consumed me, and I couldn't beat it."
His sudden death shed a spotlight on the scrutinising industry of K-Pop and the immense pressure that comes with the career.
We send our love to Hara and hope she makes a full recovery.
