Kylie Jenner Denies Claims That She Sent A Cease & Desist Letter To An Aussie Business Selling ‘Rise & Shine’ Tee
A little over a week ago, we wrote about the unconfirmed reports that Kylie Jenner sent a cease and desist letter to a small Aussie business for selling a ‘rise and shine’ tee, after trying to trademark the term in the US following her viral meme. The story, which initially broke on The Gold Coast Bulletin, got enough attention for the billionaire businesswoman to address the whole situ on Twitter this morning.
For her part, Kylie denies the claims that she put her lawyers on the Aussie business, writing, “I have not sent any Rise and Shine cease and desist letters. Rise and Shine was an unexpected moment.. I had a lot of fun with it, and I have laughed so hard seeing everyone’s memes since the video came out a few weeks ago..”
guys, please don’t believe everything you read. I have not sent any Rise and Shine cease and desist letters. 🤦🏻♀️ Rise and Shine was an unexpected moment.. I had a lot of fun with it, and I have laughed so hard seeing everyone’s memes since the video came out a few weeks ago..

Despite the many, many quotes served up by The Gold Coast Bulletin, the Aussie business in question has also denied that they received any cease and desist letters from Kylie’s lawyers. Cased Clothing posted an update on their Instagram account after the news broke, writing, "We currently do not and have never had a problem with Kylie Jenner".
So, it looks like there actually hasn’t been any threatening legal documents sent from Kylie’s camp after all, which is great.
We don't love drama for the sake of drama, but hey, the whole saga is a healthy lil reminder for us to consider the pretty pervasive trademarking culture that exists these days and the legal power that big names have to capitalize on stuff that feels like should belong to all of us, aka. good ol' ‘rise and shine’.
It's a crazy world, guys.
