Madonna tops Forbes’ Highest Paid Musicians List for 2013
Just when you thought Madonna had seen her reign, think again. The popstar has just been named Forbes’ Highest Paid Musician for the Year!
Raking in over $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013, the singer beat Coldplay, Justin Bieber and even Queen Bey for the top spot. While the 55-year-old has had success with her Material Girl clothing line and new fragrance, it was her ‘MDNA Tour’ that brought home most of the bacon, grossing over $300 million.
Coming in second on the list was her rival, Lady Gaga. Earning a cool $80 million, the singer also had a successful world tour, making over $160 million before she was forced to cancel due to a hip injury.
Following closely behind Mother Monster was Bon Jovi with $79 million, Toby Keith with $65 million and Coldplay with $64 million. Justin Bieber also made the top ten with $58 million, with Taylor Swift ($55 million) and Elton John ($54 million) hot on his heels.
According to Forbes, most of the artists made their revenue through tours and concert appearances. Kevin Liles, manager of artists including Big Sean, Trey Songz and Young Jeezy, told Forbes Magazine: “With touring being the biggest revenue stream, if there’s an opportunity for an artist to go out, if there’s an opportunity for a promoter to curate a festival, people are doing it.”
On the contrary, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs proved there were other ways of generating high earnings. The rapper reportedly made most of his revenue through his Ciroc Vodka deal, securing ‘Diddy’ as hip-hop’s highest paid for 2013 with $52 million.
