Why Lauren Jauregui Will Either Make Or Break Fifth Harmony This Year
After Fifth Harmony ~unofficially~ became "Fourth Harmony" with the exit of Camilla Cabello last year, a sour note rang out among Harmonizers everywhere. When a pop group at the height of their success loses a star member, it can totes spell the beginning of the end for the whole shebang.
Look at One Direction, they released one album after Zayn Malik GTFO and then went on an indefinite hiatus. Same thing with the Spice Girls after Geri left, except those chicks broke up completely #RIP.
The future of 5H as a four-piece will of course hinge partly on the ladies' forthcoming new album. If it scorches the charts with bangers aplenty then the chances of them pulling off a post-The Writing’s On The Wall Destiny’s Child or a post-PCD Pussycat Dolls - who both continued to dominate pop culture even after respective lineup reshuffles that saw them downsize members back in the mid-to-late noughties - will defs increase.
But then, those guys had a Beyonce and a Nicole Scherzinger leading the charge. Does Fifth Harmony have one of those? Someone with the star power, crazy-ass talent and culture-shaking charisma to lead the others through this tumultuous transitional period and on to bigger and better things?
We reckon they do, and we reckon it’s your gal Lauren Jauregui.
Why? It’s pretty obv TBH. She’s kind of already outgrowing the group in a bunch of ways, including:
1. As an artist
Lozza has already started to lay the roots for a solo career outside of Fifth Harmony, collaborating with some huge AF names, cooking up her own solo tunes (not to mention fkn slaying her first performance sans 5H). Plus her star co-writers Marian Hill have already teased that she’s only just getting started, which is significant:
SLAYED it 🎉🎉 so proud to be the first of many 😘🎉❤️❤️👏👏💃 https://t.co/hJGv3mplGu

2. As a cultural icon
The 21-year-old is also steadily becoming an icon for the LGBTQ+ community, bravely standing up to the homophobia running rampant in Trump’s America by coming out as a proud bisexual and inspiring the f*ck out of us all in the process.
3. As a bonafide celeb
Yep, she’s also mixing in some pretty A-list squads (including a new BFF-ship with Halsey who rumour has it dropped $5K on the pair’s recent night out on the town together) and copping her fair share of drug scandals, which we’re pretty sure is like some kind of magic formula for celeb status in 2017 or something. JK. But seriously, she’s got almost 2 million more Insty followers than Dinah, Ally or Normani so, you know, social media has spoken.
Lauren Jauregu is undoubtedly 5H’s biggest remaining BO$$, and the future of the band beyond 2017 firmly rests on her beautiful broad shoulders. But will she choose to use her Timberlakean powers to lead the girl group on to higher notes, or follow Camila Cabello out the door and let 5H fall flat?
Well, she’s already ranted that the girls are treated like “f*cking slaves” and begun flexing her own artistic muscle with songwriting (whereas 5H don’t write their own music which ICYMI: was one of the main reasons why Camila left) so if you ask us, things don’t look toooooooo promising.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see whether ~Miss Movin’ On~ anytime soon, or, ahem, ~Going Nowhere~.
