Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Have Dropped A Chilling New Song 'Drug Dealer'
Just ahead of Macklemore’s MTV special Prescription for Change: Ending America’s Opioid Crisis — during which he discusses opioid abuse with President Obama — the rapper has released a poignant new song, “Drug Dealer.”
The new track, which features producer Ryan Lewis and singer Ariana DeBoo, warns against the dangers of prescription drug abuse, a topic Macklemore also tackled on last year’s “Kevin.” In the song, he calls out pharmaceutical companies for contributing to America’s opioid epidemic, and references celebrities whose deaths were tied to accidental overdoses, including Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, and Prince. DeBoo hops on the chorus, beautifully singing/warning, “My drug dealer was a doctor, doctor / Had the plug from big pharma, pharma / I think he trying to kill me, kill me / He tried to kill me for a dollar, dollar.”
