What to expect from the ‘2013 American Music Awards’
Los Angeles will be abuzz with glitz and glamour tonight, as the ‘2013 American Music Awards' are set to unfold.
We’re already expecting a stellar lineup of performances from artists including Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, One Direction and pop icons TLC. Opening the show will be Katy Perry with her new song ‘Unconditionally’, while Miley Cyrus will be wrapping up the awards.
Known for her controversial performances, we’re not sure what to expect from the singer tonight, but if previously dancing with a foam finger and twerking with a Dwarf are anything to go by, we’re sure the 20-year-old has something suprising up her sleeve.
Hosting the AMA’s this year is Pitbull, who will also be taking the stage to perform with Jennifer Lopez and Ke$ha. The rapper promised to keep the party pumping, telling E! News: "The night is only about one thing: Fun!"
Pitbull won’t be the only one partying, however - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis look set for a big night with six nominations, including ‘Single of the Year’ and ‘Favourite Artist’. Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift aren’t far behind with five gongs, and will both compete for ‘Artist of the Year’.
While Pink, Robin Thicke and Bruno Mars also got a nod, it’s Rihanna who will be shining bright like a diamond. The singer has been chosen to receive the first ever ‘Icon Award’ - a prize which honours an artist whose body of work has had a global influence over pop culture.
“As an icon, she is super on point. Like we look at her, people look at her and they admire her style, they admire her swag and who she is," the singer explained.
