Akon Defends Jacko
Michael Jackson’s controversial new album has caused a war of words between two of hip hop’s biggest stars.
Will.i.am sensationally told Entertainment Weekly he thought it was “disrespectful” to release previously unheard tracks from the King of Pop - but now Jacko’s fellow collaborator, Akon, has hit back.
The 'I Wanna Love You' singer - who teamed up with the late popstar for his forthcoming album’s first single ‘Hold My Hand’ – insists the new release is in fact a way of honouring the icon.
Responding to the Black Eyed Peas star’s comments, he told TMZ,
"I think that's probably Will's opinion.
"Me personally, I think that's keeping his legacy alive, if you ask me. I don't see anything disrespectful about it. He got his people taking care of it. We all did records that we actually worked on together on the album.
"These records would have come out whether he was alive or dead, so I think this actually to helps keep his legacy alive. I honestly disagree with that."
And recalling the life-changing moment he got to work with the ‘Beat It’ star, Akon added,
"He was a very incredible person, very creative. That was really a dream come true on my end. I enjoyed every moment of it."
