Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Has Been Sentenced To Eight Months Prison For Tax Evasion
The full sentence is eight months in prison, as well as two years on probation. He also must complete 500 hours of community service, pay a restitution of $123,913 USD, that has already been paid, and a fine of $10,000 which must be paid in 30 days.
In January of this year, Sorrentino and his brother Marc - who received 24 months prison - plead guilty to tax evasion and concealing income, after inaccurately reporting almost $9 million in income. He also didn't pay any income tax in 2011, despite starring on Jersey Shore at the time and earning around $2 million.
Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman of the U.S. Department of Justice's Tax Division said, via a press release, that "lying to and defrauding the federal government is a very serious crime, regardless of a defendant's celebrity status."
"The Sorrentino brothers chose to use Michael's fame to benefit themselves at the expense of the American taxpayer, and with the help of our federal partners, they were held accountable."
Pauly D, Snooki, JWoww, Vinny, Deena, Ronnie and Angelina were all present at the hearing, as well as Sorrentino's fiancée, Lauren Pesce.
