Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke bringing summer to the MTV VMAs!
They’ve been tearing up the charts with their hit singles over the past few months, and now Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke are set to bring their summer anthems to the stage at the ‘2013 MTV Video Music Awards.’
The pop superstars join an ever-growing lineup of incredible performers including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Kanye West – who are all set to tear the roof off the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 26.
But that’s not all! One Direction have also been confirmed to make an appearance at this year’s VMAs – after making quite the impact in 2012 performing their single ‘One Thing’ and taking home three Moonmen, including Best New Artist and Best Pop Video for ‘What Makes You Beautiful.’
1D, Miley and Mr Thicke will also be pitted against each other in the brand new VMA category, Best Song of the Summer, which sees six of the season’s biggest tracks go head-to-head. Miley’s ‘We Can’t Stop,’ Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ and 1D’s ‘Best Song Ever’ will be battling it out for summer supremacy against Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky,’ Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s ‘I Need Your Love’ and Selena Gomez’ ‘Come & Get It.’
This hot new category is socially-driven and from today, YOU can vote for your favourites via Twitter, Instagram or Vine by using the corresponding hashtags: #votemiley, #votedaftpunk, #voteselena, #voteonedirection, #votethicke or #votecalvinandellie. Voting will remain open until the day of the VMAs!
After scoring nods for this brand new award, both Miley and Robin are currently sitting on four VMA nominations, tied with Bruno Mars for second place on the score board. Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are still leading the charge with six nominations apiece.
This year’s VMA winners will take home a special-edition Moonman, reimagined by world-renowned Brooklyn-based artist KAWES created exclusively for the 2013 show.
The ‘MTV VMAs’ will air LIVE from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Monday August 26, with a pre-show kicking off at 10am AU / 12pm NZ and the main show at 11am AU / 1pm NZ – only on MTV!
