Robin Thicke breaks silence over VMA performance with Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has taken the opportunity to speak out in her defence following her and Robin Thicke’s raunchy performance at the ‘2013 MTV Video Music Awards’ but the ‘Blurred Lines’ singer has chosen to stay mum on the whole thing – until now!
In his first interview since the VMAs, the chart-topping crooner has revealed that he and Miley carefully planned every GIF-making moment that took place.
“We knew what we were getting ourselves into. We're entertainers, and the VMAs is the perfect place for a little shock and awe,” Thicke told Star magazine.
“Yeah, we kind of knew when we were in rehearsal and we were like, ‘OK, if you touch me with your foam finger all over my crotch, obviously a few people are going to have something to say about this.’ But that was the whole point. I mean the whole point was to excite and provoke and entertain.”
But while the performance certainly did “provoke,” the 36-year-old points out that he doesn’t feel there was anything “sexual” happening up there on that stage.
“Everybody comes from different places and has their own opinions. But when people use the word ‘sexual,’ I didn't feel anything sexual about the performance,” he shared.
“I thought it was silly and funny. [Miley] was being humorous and naughty. But it wasn't sexually charged at all. That's who she is and that's how she likes to dance. And she was just being herself and I was just being myself.”
Even Robin’s wife, Paula Patton, gave the raunchy performance her seal of approval!
“She loved it. I think it looks different on screen than it does when you're in the arena. It was really just a circus and she thought it was great. She enjoyed it,” insisted Thicke.
“It’s the VMAs. You’re supposed to have some fun.”
