5 Mission Impossible Moments I Like To Re-Watch Every Week
Hello my name is Lisa Hamilton and I'm a film buff.
Now, I'm definitely not your ~David and Margaret~ highbrow reviewer. I just love a good story told really well.
Throughout my viewing history there have been so many iconic movies that stand out in their respective genres. For example I remember the first time I saw Jim Carey's Liar, Liar where I laughed until I cried. I remember the first time I watched Titanic and completely understood the power of a great dramatic biopic. BTW I also cried from start to end. In 1996 I saw Mission: Impossible, which was my first foray into the spy realm. I was totally entranced by the escapades of Ethan Hunt and as a yound kid I was swept up in the adventures I saw playing out before me. I was hooked.
Some six films later and the MI franchise is still going strong and the fans are still going bonkers for it.
As a hand-over-my-heart MI tragic (and Tom Cruise for that matter too) my wish for this world is to have Tommy pumping out films until the day he dies (although I'm not convinced he ever ages?). But until my wish is fulfilled, here are five Mission: Impossible scenes I like to re-watch on a regular basis to satiate my need for speed...and my unashamed love of spy films.
The Cables - Mission: Impossible
My tiny mind couldn't comprehend how anyone could sit through this scene without a deep anxiety rolling over. Not only was I impressed by Mr Cruise's excellent core strength as he remained horizontal on the cables but I defy anyone not to break a sweat as that one tiny bead of perspiration dropped from his glasses.
Building Free Fall - Mission: Impossible 3
This scene from the third installment was a stunning display of the physicality Tom brings to his performances. Try and keep your lunch down watching Ethan free fall from atop a giant skyscraper. Oh yeh and of course he took out two of the bad guys on his way down. With ease.
Halo Jump - Mission: Impossible Fallout
True to the sixth films' name, there's a scene where Cruise ~falls out~ of a plane. But this isn't any old jump...it's a HIGH ALTITUDE LOW OPEN parachute jump. Which sounds intense, because it is. Tommy did it all and he's 56-years-old. You simply cannot stop him.
Prison Escape - Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol
Ethan is stuck in a high security Moscow Prison? He'll never get out. Oh wait, it's Ethan, of course he will. Added entertainment value comes from Simon Pegg's hilarious comedic performance.
Bridge Battle - Mission: Impossible III
Oh man, this one might just take the cake. You've got vans flipping, missiles exploding, bridges collapsing and Tom engaging in an intense battle with the enemy. It is pure unadulterated action, played out brilliantly with all the right elements coming together.
Mission: Impossible Fallout is in Aussie cinemas now. Grab your tickets here.
