10 mind-blowing remixes we’re loving
Featuring Go Freek, Yolanda Be Cool, Jimmy Edgar and LDRU, here’s our round-up of the best new remixes we’re finding hard to get out of our heads.
Go Freek- We Can Ride (Dom Dolla Remix)
Go Freek are two talented producers who have a unique tech house vibe about them. Their stand-out live performances have led to a number of highly-coveted gigs (including a spot on the Stereosonic 2013 lineup and a Boys Noize support slot), so these guys are definitely one duo to keep a listen out for. We’re massive fans of the boys here at MTV HQ, so you can imagine our excitement when word got out that Dom Dolla had remixed one of their tracks. The rework takes the original’s vocals and places them at the front of the production, then a layer of synths and garage percussion is built around them. What we love most though, is the Melbourne producer’s killer bassline which definitely draws our ears in and becomes a real highlight of the track. Check it out…
SAFIA - Paranoia, Ghosts & Other Sounds (Young Franco Remix)
We recently featured Young Franco in our 10 Australian Producers We're Loving feature and this 19-year-old from Brisbane seems to be on a roll if this remix is anything to go by. His funky bassline and disco influence can definitely be heard in the track even fellow Aussie producer Motez is giving it the thumbs up...

Chet Faker - Blush (JÜAN DU SOL Late Night Touch Up)
Australian singer song-writer Chet Faker is making waves in the US at the moment, having relocated to New York and (almost) selling out his tour. We've seen him go from strength to strength with his cover of Blackstreet’s No Diggity being featured in a commercial during the 2013 Superbowl and in April his album Built On Glass debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA charts – so it’s safe to say his fans are loving what they’re hearing.
But it is Juan Du Soul’s remix of Chet’s Blush which has been really getting our ears going and with the man himself being one third of Sydney’s electro juggernaught RUFUS, it’s easy to see why. Chet’s glorious vocals are still prominent on the track, but it is Juan who takes things to another level by adding soft layers of drummy chords. It seems like he’s pretty pleased with the outcome too...
RUFUS - Sundream (Wordlife Remix)
RUFUS need no introduction as they've been letting their music do the talking for a while now and the critics have been loving every inch of their tracks – us included! But just when you thought things couldn’t get any better for the Aussie trio, along come Sydney duo Wordlife who have produced one seriously dreamy remix. Behind the name is Kato and Adam Bozzetto, who have just recently finished up touring with The Presets and are also on the bill to play at Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass Festival this July.
A$AP Ferg - Shabba (Yolanda Be Cool Booty Remix)
You’ve definitely got guts if you take on A$AP Ferg, an American hip hop artist from New York’s Harlem neighbourhood. Another Sydney duo, Yolanda Be Cool, were up for the challenge and they sure did deliver. This track is going to get you ready for the weekend in a big way, with the sound verging nicely on a house format and teamed with some clever vocal sampling. Have a listen...
Yolanda Be Cool - All That She Wants (Feat. SYF and Fritz Helder) (Plastic Plates Remix)
So we’ve already seen that Yolanda Be Cool can remix some seriously good beats, so what happens when the tables are turned and someone else takes them on? Well, this track – and it’s so so awesome! The man behind it is Los Angeles producer Felix Bloxson – better known as Plastic Plates – and his rendition of All She Wants needs to be heard ASAP! The Sweat It Out! signee has some serious street cred having worked with the likes of MIKA, Sia Furler, Daniel Merriweather, Empire Of The Sun, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson.
BROODS - Bridges (L D R U Remix)
A relatively new release, this is one smooth remix of BROODS’ Bridges track. The song has a tropical futuristic sound to it and is offset perfectly with an almost psychedelic bassline. LDRU is another producer part of the Aussie invasion, and this 21-year-old has the goods to back up his credentials. Our pals over at Purple Sneakers love it too...

Bad MF – Treasure Fingers and Anna Lunoe (Original Mix)
Although not a remix per say, we couldn’t leave this track out from another Aussie superstar Anna Lunoe. Partnering up with Atlanta’s Treasure Fingers, this is one dancefloor firestarter if we’ve ever heard one! And with a song title like that, you know they mean business...
Cool DJ Mix - Ryan Hemsworth
We came across this Ryan Hemsworth gem while hunting around Soundcloud – and it’s definitely worthy of this list! Having worked with the likes of Deniro Farrar and Shady Blaze among other artists, this talented Canadian has also remixed tracks by Grimes, Frank Ocean, Tinashe and Cat Power. His smooth electronic and hip hop influence can be heard throughout his set, so sit back and let your ears take you on one very cool hour-long journey.
Claude VonStroke- Lay It Down Re Smoked feat. DJ Nehpets (Jimmy Edgar Remix)
Jimmy Edgar is one multi-faceted artist. As well as being a unique music producer he is also a fashion photographer and industrial designer (talk about multi tasking!) All these influences feature heavily in his music, with there being no sign of this 30-year-old slowing down any time soon. This time around, the Detroit producer takes on Claude VonStroke’s track Lay It Down and delivers one seriously cool sound. We're obsessed.
when are people going to stop saying it was a good night because they woke up hungover and can't remember it?
