2Pac’s music to feature in Broadway musical ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’
A musical based on the life of rap icon Tupac Shakur is coming to Broadway, with the late rapper's songs set to feature in upcoming musical, ‘Holler if Ya Hear Me.’
Developed by stage director Kenny Leon, the story is set "in the present day on the inner-city streets of a Midwestern industrial city," and tells "the story of two childhood friends and their extended families as they struggle to reconcile the challenges and realities of their daily lives with their hopes, dreams and ambitions."
According to Rollingstone magazine, Leon calls it an "unconditional love story" with an “anti-violence message” and told Broadway.com earlier this year that it “is a present day musical using all of 2Pac’s music, but 2Pac is not a character in the musical.”
While the show is still currently in development stages, producers are hoping to have it ready in time to debut during the 2013-2014 Broadway season.
