Casey Donovan reveals six year ‘Catfish’ relationship
Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan has revealed that she was in a relationship for six years with a man named ‘Campbell’ who turned out to be a fake.
The 25-year-old talented songstress has opened up about her recent ‘Catfish’ incident in the latest issue of New Idea, claiming she first entertained the idea of a relationship with ‘Campbell’ after they spoke for hours on the phone.
“I wasn’t pretty. I was fat. I always said the wrong things and made a fool of myself," she told the magazine, adding: “What on earth could he see in me?”
Donovan admits her insecurities, self-loathing and poor self-esteem plummeted after winning ‘Australian Idol’ when she was just 16. The celebrity status that came along with the title, proved to be too much pressure for the teenager.
After talking to Campbell on the phone, Donovan was instantly attracted to his mystique and tried to arrange a meet and greet, however he never seemed to be available throwing out a sting of excuses.
“He had to go to Queensland to look after his sick aunt, his car wasn’t working, his cousin died, his sister was pregnant,” she added.
The moment Casey found out the man she was falling for was in fact a woman, was when she was introduced to Campbell’s friend ‘Olga’ who confessed to the whole charade.
“In the end, Olga did confess that she was Campbell. I finally heard it from the devil’s mouth,” she said. “But she never came close to explaining why she did it.”
