‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ film to star Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson
Since it was first announced that ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ was set to be adapted for the big screen, the internet has been abuzz with rumours about who would be playing the core characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
But it looks like all that Ryan Gosling / Robert Pattinson talk was way off base, with Universal Pictures announcing today that ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star Charlie Hunnam is set to play the brooding Christian Grey, with Dakota Johnson – who you may remember from ‘The Five-Year Engagement’ – taking the role of Miss Steele.
Hunnam has a number of feature film credits to his name already, including ‘Pacific Rim,’ ‘Children of Men,’ ‘Cold Mountain’ and ‘Nicholas Nickleby,’ while Johnson scored her first notable film role in 2010’s ‘The Social Network’ and more recently starred in ’21 Jump Street.’
The ‘Fifty Shades’ trilogy became an instant global phenomenon upon its release and has since been translated into 50 languages. To date, there have been over 70 million copies sold in e-book and print worldwide, making it one of the fastest-selling book series ever.
The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is set for release in Australia and New Zealand on July 31, 2014.
