Josh Pyke Goes Gold
Josh Pyke, the guy with the boat shaped like a guitar, has gone gold. Or, to be more accurate, his second album has. Released late last year, 'Chimney's Afire' has just ticked over the magic line, selling over 35,000 units locally.
The sales milestone follows months of extensive touring by the Sydney based singer/songwriter. His magic boat probably deserves a little credit as well. Custom-made for the 'Make You Happy' videoclip, the boat was later auctioned off for charity. As Pyke recently explained: “Seeing the guitar boat clip spread around the world has been one of the highlights of releasing this album so far."
Pyke is currently touring a sold-out run of shows in the UK, but he'll be back in the country and playing shows throughout regional centres in April, May and June. 'Chimney's Afire' has picked up rave reviews in pretty much all the local music press, and if Pyke can continue with the touring it may still go platinum yet. His first album, 2007's 'Memories & Dust, also went Gold, spawning several hit singles in the process.
