Katy Perry appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador!
Children’s charity UNICEF have announced Katy Perry as their latest Goodwill Ambassador, with her role focusing specifically on engaging young people in efforts to improve the lives of children and adolescents that are vulnerable.
It seems that Katy is thrilled with her new appointment, saying in a statement: “I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help.
“I am honoured to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future,” she continued.
The 29-year-old visited Madagascar on behalf of UNICEF back in April to draw attention to the plight of children on the island and she was so inspired she wrote her hit ‘Unconditionally’ based on her experiences.
“It changed my life. It really kind of reprioritised my thinking and my whole approach on life and how to find my own joy and my own happiness that isn’t being from material possessions and social status,” GMA News reported Perry as saying.
Katy will be following in the footsteps of some pretty big names with previous Goodwill Ambassadors including fellow singers Shakira and Ricky Martin as well as soccer star David Beckham and actors Orlando Bloom and Whoopi Goldberg.
“Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her ‘roar’ on behalf of UNICEF,” said Executive Director Anthony Lake in a news release.
