Katy Perry performs ‘Roar’ for first time in MTV VMA finale!
The star took the stage as the final performer of the evening, belting out her brand new single ‘Roar’ live for the very first time – proving she’s back and literally fighting fit.
Riding into New York’s Brooklyn Bridge Park on the back of her golden ‘Prism’ semi-truck, the singer wore a maroon silk boxing robe with ‘LIONNESS’ emblazoned across the back, showing she was ready to pack a punch during her show.
On stage, KP performed alongside her eight backup dancers in the middle of a boxing ring, wearing a tiger-striped crop top and flame-printed satin boxer shorts, getting fully into character with her hair braided into cornrows and even working a jump-rope interlude into the middle of her performance.
And let’s not forget the bikini-clad ring girls, who held up ‘Game Over’ signs to single the end of another epic VMA year as Perry stood in all her glory atop a gold podium in the middle of the ring.
“I like to have the last word,” Katy told MTV News about having the honour of closing the show.
And what a great last word it was.
