Lady Gaga urges Miley Cyrus critics to lighten up
Miley Cyrus hit headlines last week when she stripped down to nude-coloured underwear - singing and twerking her way around the stage with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs in Brooklyn, New York.
The sexually-charged performance upset officials at America's Parents Television Council and prompted stars such as Cyrus' former TV mum, Brooke Shields, and singer Cyndi Lauper to express their distaste at the 20-year-old's onstage antics, but Gaga insists the youngster's detractors need to back off - because it's all in the name of fun.
Gaga has declined to share her own opinions about Cyrus' racy set, but says people need to lighten up about pop music because it's all about entertainment.
"It is here to make people feel happy. Especially in America there is an excessive dragging of female artists and I don't want to contribute to that," she told Britain's The Sun newspaper.
