Miami Music Week 2014: Survival Guide
From the bikini-clad girls to the sunrise parties, everything you’ve heard is true. So with Miami Music Week just around the corner, whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned festival-goer, we’ve put together a list of things you need to know to make your week in Florida one to remember.
It may seem de rigueur to pack lightly for your week in Miami but in reality you’ll need your must-haves plus a whole lot more. Be prepared to be sucked into the non-stop party vortex by stocking your handbag with a portable phone charger, baby wipes, deodorant, a travel-sized toothbrush and a fresh pair of underwear.
Plan your days in advance
Miami Music Week doesn’t need to eat up your life savings; there are plenty of free parties to keep you entertained. This year’s favourite is the Fool’s Gold Miami party featuring performances by A-Trak, Anna Lunoe, Wave Racer and special guests. Just remember to RSVP in advance for free entry.
Have a plan of attack
Have a general plan for what you’ll be doing during the day ‘cos there’s a huge chance there’ll be little to no phone service in the area. So before you’re wondering where the f… your friends are, hook up a meeting spot and stick to it.
Scope out the clean toilets
Going to Ultra? Find the clean, toilet-paper filled heaven known as the “secret toilets.” Every festival has them, you’ve just got to find them early and not reveal their location to ANYBODY. We’re serious.
Print out your party timetable in advance. This way you can prioritise who you want to see, how you’re going to get there and where you’re going to end up at sunrise. While you’re at it, print out a map of the area – you don’t want to spend precious party time waiting for a cab.
Take ear plugs
Not so much for the thuddering bass at HARD’S Rump Shaker party, more for when you end up at a hotel room after-party with Seth Troxler at 10.30am.
Bromance & Friends event at Grand Central with Brodinski, Busy P and Gesaffelstein, Sweat It Out! Miami with Rufus, What So Not and Yolanda Be Cool, Hot Creations’ Paradise with Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Skream and the biggest event on the calendar Deadmau5 vs. Eric Prydz with special guests.
